Winter Storm Warning Issued for Passaic and Bergen Countries

Winter Storm Warning

National Weather Service (NWS) issued a winter storm warning for Passaic and Bergen counties. It is expected from Saturday at 5 p.m. until Sunday at 11 a.m. Heavy snow, sleet, and icy conditions will be present during the event and may interfere with travel and other daily activities.

Storm Information and Expected Conditions

Heavy Snow and Sleet Are Expected:

Accumulation is expected within the ranges 5-7 inches, and some areas may even see some sleet mix in with the snowfall, which should add to roads slipping up.

Expected Ice Accumulation:

There will be a thin layer of ice covering the entire area of roads, sidewalks, trees, and power lines, so traction and slippery conditions might make it dangerous for people and increase the likelihood of slips, falls, and accidents.

Cold Temperatures and Wind Chill:

Temperatures will plummet to near freezing, and the wind chill will make it even colder. Wear layers and stay indoors as much as possible.

Travel Advisory and Safety Precautions:

Road Conditions will be Treacherous. With snow, sleet, and ice falling over the entire region, travel over roads will become very hazardous. It will become slippery and not safe to walk on the road. According to the NWS, stay at home and away from travel.

2. Drive Cautiously

  • Travel at a lower speed with distance from other moving vehicles.
  • Avoid braking or sudden braking because it might make your car skid.
